Turbury Chasers Cross Country Course
The Cross Country Course is built on approximately 10 acres of gently undulating permanent pasture covering 2 fields. The fences are portable (with a forklift so strong and well built) and can be moved to ensure the take off and landing sites remain in good condition.
The fences are all optional and range from 18" to 3’ 6” high so you can pick and choose your level and pace. As the fields cover a fairly compact area your Instructor can easily stay within earshot so you can make the most of your training session. The water jump rides really well as the water depth is 0 - approx 6" with approach possible from all 4 sides so you can choose the depth you enter at. To enhance your training experience through the water jump we have constructed a step fence on the bank which can be ridden as a drop into the water or as a step out.
Regular Cross Country clinics are held between May and November with local Professional Eventing Star Sue Chadwick – see Events page. Bespoke individual training can be organised.
The course is available for external hire to riding clubs, groups and individuals by the hour with block booking/group discounts available.
The course includes the following fences:
- Water
- Drop Fences
- Wall
- Log Piles
- Pheasant Feeders
- Tiger Trap
- Coffin
- Tables
- Barrels
- Sheep Feeders
- Tree Trunks
- Roll Tops
- Tires
- Ski Jump
- Ditch
Show Jumping Course
In the field adjacent to the Cross Country Course we have built a show jumping course of a novice standard that can be hired with or independantly of our cross country course. It is available during the summer months whilst the cross country course is open. So why not add a further dimension to your training?
Turbury Showcross Series Competition
Showcross is a relatively new equine discipline comprised of a round of cross country and a round of show jumping usually all or partly against the clock with the fastest or closest to the optimum time being the winners. We run classes for Novice (max approx 2'3") Intermediate (max approx 2'6") Open (max approx 3'6") and Pairs over the novice course. Rosettes are given to 6th place & Turbury vouchers to 3rd place at every competition. Points are awarded for each placing, added up at the end of the season with the highest scores being awarded championship rossettes and sashes with prizes from external sponsors.
Our showcross competitions are friendly affairs, we never eliminate anyone so it's a great start for novice horses and riders to get a taste of the competitive environment without ruining confirdence. The usual penalties are awarded for refusals and knock downs with additional added for missing fences so you can still complete the course and turn it into a training experience if things go wrong. There will always be another day and/or another competition! So why not give it go, if you love jumping you'll love this. Competions run between May & September check the events calendar for the next one :-)
Future Plans: Farm Ride
As part of our expansion plans to enhance your training experience at Turbury we intend to build a Farm Ride set in 50 acres. The course will be designed and constructed by a British Eventing accredited team. We have confirmation that our site, subject to the fences once built, meeting their standards, will be accepted as a member of UK Chasers, giving you the confidence and peace of mind that the course will be of a nationally recognised quality and standard.
The fences will all be optional and range from approximately 18" to 3’ high so you can pick and choose your level and pace.
