Always wanted to learn how to ride?

Worried the weather will spoil your experience?

Then fulfil your dreams with us - our Indoor Arena means you can ride whatever the weather!

Horse riding isn't just for younsters!  Many people loved riding in their youth but as work and family commitments demanded more time something had to give - often riding.  A Nationwide campaign driven by the Olympics and equestrian body "HOOF", "Take Back the Reins" aims to re-introduce riding to a whole generation of lost riders.  We, at Turbury, are joining the initiative.

As a sport, horse riding combines a physical cardio vascular workout burning lots of calories with a mental challenge.  It also increases self confidence and can be taken at any pace, by anyone young or old.  Riding is a sport for all ages and all seasons - particularly with our Indoor Arena to protect you from the worst of the weather.  Riding is said to burn some 400 calories an hour, at a reasonable  speed, so can be a really good workout strengthening and toning muscles and yet it can be taken at a gentle pace to suit any one, from age seven to seventy.  Any sort of riding: jumping, playing games, hacking or looking after horses or ponies can be enjoyed by anyone of any age - riding is the only sport where gender has no meaning.  If you join a group lesson there's a great social aspect too!  So come on - give us a ring - you know you want to!

In the past, riding has often been seen as elitist because of the cost.  However, it is possible to take part in equestrian activites without it needing to cost too much.  We provide hard hats to current BSI safety standards and the only other necessity is a pair of sturdy boots or shoes, with a slight heel and a pair of comfy trousers or leggings (no skirts or shorts). But if you do want to get all the gear, riding clothes are available from sport and specialist riding shops, and online to suit every pocket.  We can recommend local tack shops on request.

When you ring to find out more/book we'll get the embarrassing bit over with first - your age, height and weight and any medical conditions then it's over to you.  You'll be invited to share your horse riding experience (if any at all).  We'll try and identify what you'd like to achieve, your motivations and goals, hopes, fears and dreams!

For our younger riders we hold pony days during school holidays so they can learn how to look after the ponies as well as ride, play games, quizzes and have loads of fun.  See the events calendar for dates.

TESTAMONIALS

My daughter, Ella, started Saddleclub and riding lessons at Turbury Equisport at the beginning of the summer and took part in one of the Pony Days in the school holidays.  From day one she has loved going and being 'Hands on' with the horses.  The atmosphere is always welcoming and all the staff are friendly and fun at all times.  As a parent, the Instructor in the lessons, welcomed me to watch, which I daid for a couple of times...  The lessons were fantastic as they were informative, safe, confidence building and really great fun!  Ella is always excited when I leave her and thrilled by her time at Turbury when I pick her up!

Many Thanks.  Val Noakes (parent)
